The South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities (SDCDD) is in the process of creating our State Plan for 2027-2031, which will outline the direction of the Council's work for the next five years.
What is the SDCDD?
- Mission: to assist people with I/DD and their families to experience quality of life they desire through advocacy and systems change.
- Focus on Inclusion: Council activities focus on the inclusion of people with I/DD in their communities - where they live, learn, worship, volunteer, and participate in leisure activities.
- The SDCDD is made up of 25 members, appointed by the Governor. Sixty percent of the Council's members are people with I/DD or are family members/guardians of people with people with I/DD. Other members are professionals from major state agencies, service providers, advocacy groups and community representatives.
- Through the Developmental Disabilities Act (Public Law 106-402), each state is authorized to establish a Council to address the unmet needs of people with developmental disabilities through advocacy, capacity building and systems change activities.
