Student United Way is an interactive community engagement program that gives high school students the tools to become strong community leaders and citizens. It works with students their freshmen and sophomore years. Students examine needs in the community and explore solutions with United Way and our nonprofit, corporate, and government partners. The program highlights include visits with top United Way campaigns (http://www.uwrv.org/news/united-way-announces-50-most-generous-workplaces-roanoke-valley) and their executive leadership, as well as volunteer opportunities with the area’s strongest nonprofits (http://www.uwrv.org/partnerships).

Applications to the program are open to all interested freshmen. Applications will be taken through September 30th 2016. Interested applicants should have a strong interest in community service and the Roanoke Valley. They must have availability for and transportation to evening meetings throughout their sophomore and junior years, as well as some flexibility to participate in summer volunteer events. Up to three students per high school will be invited to participate.

Student United Way will meet monthly on Monday evenings, during the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, with opportunities to engage in summer volunteer opportunities.
