Course Title: Introduction to Engineered Lumber for Low Rise Construction - 2 PDH

Speaker: Drexel Hermann PE and Craig Smith, Manufacturer's Representatives, Weyerhaeuser

This course highlights unique design advantages of solid section engineered lumber products versus built-up members. Participants come away with a strong understanding of how and when to use solid section beams and cautions and considerations with built-up members in design and installation for beams & columns.

Learning Objectives:

· Design and installation challenges associated with Multiple Ply Member Beams versus Solid Section Beams

· Review how Multiple Ply Beams are affected by lateral stability and connection detailing

· Compare design and installation of Field Built Columns versus Solid Section Columns

· Discuss Eccentricity and Concentricity and how they affect column design

This presentation includes an overview of what a composite structure is as well as the benefits and advantages of using these types of systems. The program will examine industry standards and performance attributes for composite structures, enabling the design professional to select the appropriate system for a specific project.
