Christy Fedor Award 2023 Nomination Form |
Christy Fedor Award For Excellence in Tobacco Enforcement
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program (MTCP) is proud to establish the Christy Fedor Award for Excellence in Tobacco Enforcement in honor of Christy Fedor, a long-time MTCP employee and tobacco enforcement champion, who passed away in 2019.
Each year, local Board of Health programs and FDA tobacco compliance officers are invited to nominate one youth they feel embodies Christy’s spirit, work ethic, and commitment to tobacco enforcement.
Christy began her work in tobacco control in 1998, as a consultant. She helped design the early youth tobacco compliance programs and conducted inspections in retail stores. She first served as the Synar Coordinator at DPH and then as the State Coordinator of the FDA Tobacco Enforcement Program.
Christy was instrumental in building the tobacco compliance program and played a critical role in reducing the use of tobacco amongst youth in the Commonwealth. Her courage, kindness, and clarity of purpose made her a trusted leader who inspired her staff and colleagues. Those lucky to work with Christy knew her as a tireless worker and remember her intelligence, dedication, kindness, and devotion to her family. This award will ensure that Christy’s legacy lives on.
The recipient of the 2023 Christy Fedor Award for Excellence in Tobacco Enforcement will have conducted tobacco compliance inspections in 2022 for either a local Board of Health program or the FDA Tobacco Enforcement program in Massachusetts. They should be reliable, trustworthy, authentic, of good spirit, and dedicated to the job and to tobacco control.
Please complete this nomination form by March 1, 2023. A review committee will be appointed each year to evaluate the nominations and select one deserving candidate. The youth awarded with this honor will also be given a $500 stipend.
This award will be presented on Massachusetts’ observance of Kick Butts Day: Take Down Tobacco at the State House taking place March 30, 2023.
