Course Description

Forensic Firearms Overview 
This two-hour training session is designed for Identification Services officers, Chief Investigators, Crown and Defense counsel, and any agency individuals who may be required to submit evidence to - or receive reports from - the Firearms and Toolmarks Section of the CFS.  The session provides a general overview of firearms and ammunition, as well as an introduction to the Firearms and Toolmarks Section at the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS), examinations conducted, and services offered.  Firearm and ammunition basics, scene examination, evidence collection and packaging, and consultation and submission processes will be covered. 

By the end of the session, participants will demonstrate knowledge of different firearm types and actions, best practices for safe firearm handling, evidence collection and preservation, and the streamlined case acceptance and examination strategies within the Firearms and Toolmarks Section.
