We want your views on our proposals to make changes to the boundary of the Brixton Conservation Area (CA)

The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 defines conservation areas as ‘areas of special architectural or historic interest the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’. The Act requires Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) to revisit conservation area designation ‘from time to time’.

The redevelopment of the Your New Town Hall project has resulted in a new pattern of development which is not in keeping with the existing conservation area boundary.

The proposals seek to update the CA boundary to include the Civic Centre (because of its civic and townscape importance) but to exclude Brook House because it is not a development type characteristic of the conservation area.

You can view maps of the existing and proposed conservation area boundaries.
