The F. Edwards Rushton CATCH Award recipient is chosen by the District CATCH Facilitators through a competitive nominations process. The committee will make a selection based on how well a candidate’s nomination materials illustrate that the nominee meets the criteria.

The CATCH program encourages pediatricians to collaborate within their communities to increase children’s access to healthcare and other needed services. This award is presented to a CATCH grantee for a CATCH project that exemplifies CATCH values through the following criteria:

The CATCH program encourages pediatricians to collaborate within their communities to increase children’s access to healthcare and other needed services. This award is presented to a CATCH grantee for a CATCH project that exemplifies CATCH values through the following criteria:
- The CATCH project has grown beyond the original confines of the community and expanded, having a greater impact than originally intended. For example, by becoming a county or state health department project or becoming the project of a hospital system. The project may have been replicated in a significant way or has received major funding from another source to allow for expansion.
- The project, in collaboration with community partners, delivers services, action, and advocacy to provide a medical home for all children in the area served, and works to improve access to care for all children.
- The CATCH grantee demonstrates leadership and a commitment to the role and duty of the pediatrician in the community as a professional partner, leader, and advocate to improve child health outcomes.
Criteria for Consideration
- Nominees have received a CATCH Resident, Planning, or Implementation grant.
- Nominees are required to be members of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Nominees must be notified of their nomination by the person nominating them prior to the nomination submission.
- Deceased persons are not eligible for awards.
- Current District CATCH Facilitators and the AAP Board of Directors are not eligible to receive this award.

- Completed nomination form.
- A statement of 800 words or less, describing the CATCH grant’s outstanding achievements. Please explain the original intent of the project and how it developed, expanded and extended its influence beyond its original goals, served families to improve health outcomes, was sustained, and/or replicated.
- A nominee bio-sketch of no more than 500 words. Please do not attach a CV.
- One letter of support from an individual, organization, or public entity which is knowledgeable of the nominee’s CATCH grant and related achievements. The letter should address the project’s accomplishments and impact. A letter may be submitted by a community partner, colleague or family served by the CATCH grant. Please do not attach more than one single-spaced 1-page letter.
