There are 9 key points on the Learner Code of Conduct.  These have been adapted for Kylemore CTC from current Irish Employment Law.  These key points will help you understand how to behave in our training centre and get you used to how the policy would operate in a workplace.  They will also help you understand what your rights would be in terms of discipline at work.

 
The 9 key points are:

·    Respect for others

·    Protection of property

·    Timekeeping

·    Attendance

·    Under the influence or in the possession of illegal substances or alcohol

·    Physical/verbal assault and bullying

·    Mobile Phones 

·    Leaving the Premises with or without permission

·    The No Smoking policy

 
Your rights if you are being disciplined include explanations about:

·        Informal verbal warnings

KCTC IS A DRUGS FREE CENTRE

THE USE OF ANY ILLEGAL DRUGS IN THE CENTRE OR ON CENTRE RELATED ACTIVITIES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED 

  • You should not  attend the centre while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Each learner will be asked to sign the KCTC drugs and alcohol policy.
  • In the event that you feel you need help with a drug or alcohol issue KCTC staff will do all they can to support you. 

IF YOU ARE IN POSSESSION OF AN ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE IN KCTC OR ON CENTRE RELATED ACTIVITIES YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISMISSED FROM THE PROJECT.

You are not allowed to smoke on the KCTC Premises or on the grounds.

* 3. LEARNER ABSENCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Kylemore CTC’s policy in relation to absence and attendance at the centre has been adapted from Irish Law Guidelines and there are no exceptions made.  This is important so that when you progress into a workplace you will have an understanding of what an Employer would expect from you.

There are 6 key points to remember if you are absent:

 
1.   You need to contact the CTC before you are due to start your class (i.e. before 8.30 am).

2.   Tell us why you will be absent and when you will return.

3.   Medical Notes must be requested by you from your doctor to explain your absence if sick.  

4.   ETB policy regarding payment for absence will be explained.

5.   You must keep in touch with your keyworker or the office.

6.   If we do not hear from you in a number of days, a letter will be sent requesting you to a meeting.  If you fail to attend this meeting we will notify the ETB that you are no longer interested in remaining on the course.

* 4. Charter of Learner Rights
  1. Learners have the right to a learning environment that encourages and supports their dignity.
  2. All Learners are expected to respect the right of other learners and KCTC staff to dignity.
  3. Learners will be treated equally and respected for their individuality and diversity.
  4. Learners will have a voice in matters which affect them and their views will be given due weight in accordance with their age and maturity.
Learners will receive quality training and support to best promote aspects of their development as outlined in the Training Centre Mission Statement.

* 5. Grievance Procedures (what to do if making a complaint)
 
A grievance is a complaint that you might have if you are unhappy with something.  The aim of Kylemore CTC’s procedure is to settle grievances fairly and as quickly as possible.

Our policy is adapted from Irish Law Guidelines so that when you progress into the workplace you will know how a Grievance      Procedure should work and what you need to do if you have a formal complaint to make.

 
There are 6 key points to remember:

You must go to your Key worker/other Instructor and discuss it first; sometimes it can be sorted straight away.  This person will advise you of next steps and when and if the CTC Manager may become involved.
  1. You must put your complaint in writing if it is not fixed after the first step. 
  2. There is a simple and rapid process to fix the issue.
  3. You have the Right to be accompanied by an adult.
  4. You have the Right of Appeal.
  5. Confidentiality is the Right of all people involved in the process.

* 6. My Training Alloance

Training Allowances*

  • 16 and 17 year old learners can receive a training allowance of €40 per week
  • 18 + year olds can receive a training allowance of up to €203 per week

 
Travel Allowance

In some cases a travel allowance my be payable

  • 5 - 8 Kilometers: €4.60 per week
  • 8 - 16 Kilometers: €11.90 per week
  • 16 - 32 Kilometers: €17.60 per week
