Rotary Club of Oakland Annual Survey 2022 - Call To Action
Introduction
You may remember annual satisfaction surveys from past years! As a Club, we’re always looking for worthwhile ways to both hear from our members and streamline processes, so this is a new iteration of our annual survey which—along with broad satisfaction questions—will now also include questions related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
The Rotary Club of Oakland (RCO) is embarking on a mission-aligned journey of DEI, and your voice is critical in this process. As mentioned in the recent email from Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta, our Rotary communities recognize that, “embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) will allow us to do more meaningful work while engaging with people who know they’ll be valued for the qualities that make them unique." The following anonymous survey has been designed to better understand the perspectives, opinions, and priorities of our members and help chart the Club’s course moving forward.
For the purposes of this survey and our DEI efforts, we are leveraging the following definition as put forth by Dr. Todd Jenkins "Dr. Bowtie", a member of the Rotary International DEI Taskforce:
Diversity — Visible and invisible differences that make each of us complete.
Equity — Supplying each of us with what we uniquely need so we all have the same access to opportunities as their counterparts.
Inclusion — Fostering an environment, culture, and climate that values visible and invisible differences so that we all feel we belong, are seen, and are heard.
Your candid responses are helpful in knowing how we can work to improve your overall experience, and in crafting a DEI plan that suits the needs of our community. There are no wrong answers and we genuinely are interested in getting your thoughts and opinions. Specifically, the demographic responses collected will add an important layer of baseline data to better understand the vibrant diversity of our Club members.
What will come next? The results will be received by DEI Consultant Viva Asmelash, who will be using survey data to coordinate the next steps in this important work. In the coming months, we’ll share synthesized results and how they may be integrated into the upcoming DEI journey at RCO.
For these reasons, we cannot understate the critical nature of your whole-hearted and complete engagement and completion of this form.
