Help improve walking and biking in Davis!
The City of Davis is seeking community input on proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvements at the Richards Boulevard / I-80 interchange. This area is a key connection between South Davis and the rest of the city, but current conditions can be challenging for people walking and biking.
The larger interchange project is planned for construction in 2027, and the City is seeking grant funding to construct the bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements as part of that effort. Proposed improvements include reducing vehicle conflict points, adding a shared-use path and bike lanes, and improving crossings at freeway ramps.
Your feedback will help shape the project and support the City’s grant application to fund these improvements.
Project Background
The Richards Boulevard / I-80 interchange is a major gateway into Davis and a key connection between South Davis and the rest of the city. It provides access to downtown, shopping, medical services, transit, employment, and other everyday destinations.
Today, the interchange can be difficult and uncomfortable for people walking and biking. The existing cloverleaf design creates high-speed, uncontrolled ramp movements and multiple conflict points between vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Approximately 400 bicyclists and 200 pedestrians cross the interchange each day. Between 2019 and 2023, the corridor experienced 20 injury collisions, with 25 percent involving a bicyclist or pedestrian.
These improvements would reduce conflict points, improve comfort and accessibility and strengthen the connection between South Davis, downtown, transit, medical services, shopping areas and regional destinations.
