2020 National Conference -- October 6-8, 2020 -- Anaheim, CA

Call for Reviewers
We invite Exponent Philanthropy members to serve as reviewers of the 2020 National Conference Call for Sessions. As a reviewer, you will work alongside the Exponent Philanthropy Programs & Services Committee to evaluate proposals received through this year’s call for sessions.

We invite members who have expertise in the following categories to apply:
  • Foundation administration
  • Foundation governance
  • Grantmaking practices
  • Foundation investment practices
We welcome all members to join in the review, and in particular, we invite members with these perspectives: millennials, people who hold donor advised funds, staff who are not executive directors, trustees from unstaffed foundations, and board or staff who are people of color.

What You Will Review
Reviewers will examine a finite number of proposals and recommend sessions which are most relevant to the Exponent Philanthropy audience and meet at least one of these criteria:
  1. Take a fresh look at a common practice
  2. Have potential to improve practice
  3. Offer a unique perspective on a trend in philanthropy
And giving preference to sessions that do one or more of the following:
  1. Provide an interactive, action-oriented environment for learning
  2. Showcase diverse voices and perspectives
  3. Feature content that has a universal message and is not simply “show & tell” of one foundation’s practice.
The committee will review session proposals name blind, that is, solely on the strength of proposal in meeting the criteria.

Session Review Schedule
The 2020 Call for Sessions runs from September 19 to November 1. Your docket of sessions to review will depend upon how many proposals we get total and in how many in each category. In 2018, for our inaugural call for sessions, we received 182 proposals.

November 8     --- Begin review, up to 4-5 hours of work
November 25   --- Complete review
December 2     --- Conference call to discuss sessions, up to 2 hours

After December 2, Exponent Philanthropy staff will continue an internal review, announcing final sessions to the committee in early February and informing session designers by mid-February.
