1. Background

The Reston (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, is a sisterhood of African American women who strive to make positive changes in our community. We are proud to continue our Annual Scholarship Program where multiple scholarships are awarded to qualifying students. Below are the three scholarship categories:

1. Annual scholarships for graduates who have excelled at their local high school and are planning to attend a college/university in the U.S.

2. Historical Black College or University (HBCU ) Scholarship awarded to students who will attend an HBCU in the fall of 2024 and have excelled during their high school career.

3. The Marilyn Lightfoote, MD, Scholarship assists a minority female high school student who will major in a STEM related field at a four-year institution. This scholarship is meant to assist students and their families with postsecondary education expenses and encourage scholarship, leadership, and productive engaged citizenship.
Eligibility
  • Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Applicant must be a current student enrolled in either South Lakes High School, Herndon High School or Tuscarora High School.
  • Applicant cannot be a family member of a person who is a member of The Links, Incorporated.  Immediate Family Members—for the purpose of determining whether a conflict of interest exists, immediate family members include the member’s spouse, brother or sister (whether by whole or half-blood or where legally adopted), spouse of brother or sister (whether by whole or half-blood or legal adoption), ancestors (parents, grandparents), children (including a legally adopted child), grandchildren, great grandchildren and spouses of children, and great grandchildren (whether by whole or half-blood). How to Apply
To be accepted, your application must include the following:

☐  Complete application (online).
☐  Upload high school transcript (including SAT and/or ACT scores, upload--if available).
☐  Type, 150 word short response question. (Online)
☐  Type, 500 word essay addressing one of the provided essay topics. (Online)
      Please be sure to proofread carefully.   
☐  Two (2) letters of recommendation, with one being from your high school counselor (emailed to scholars@restonlinksinc.org)
☐  Resume highlighting educational background, work/volunteer history, extracurricular activities, leadership positions, honors, skills, etc. (uploaded)
☐  A recent picture (headshot) of applicant (uploaded)

Gather all of the documents above before you initiate the application.

Incomplete and late application packets will not be considered.

All application materials, including the letters of recommendation, must be submitted by the deadline of 11:45 p.m. April 12, 2024.  Alternatively, applicants may scan their package and email it to the chapter at scholars@restonlinksinc.org using the Subject:  LAST NAME Reston Links Scholarship Application 2024 no later than 11:45 p.m. eastern standard time on April 12, 2024
