Trauma Responsive Practices in Education Training of Trainers Application

The Colorado Office of Behavioral Health and the Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MP-MHTTC) at WICHE are pleased to offer this Training of Trainers (TOT) on Trauma Responsive Practices in Education.

This 2 day in-person training will be held on September 24-25, 2019 at the WICHE Behavioral Health Program's training center in Boulder, CO. Hotel rooms have been reserved across the street from WICHE at the Residence Inn Boulder, at your expense. 

To apply to be a trainer and attend this TOT, please complete this application and send a letter of support from your employer/school/district by August 15th, 2019. We will notify you of your acceptance to this training by the third week of August.

This 16-hour event is designed to prepare qualified professionals to conduct the 8-hour Trauma Responsive Practices in Education training developed by the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health in conjunction with other partners and offered through the Colorado Cross-Systems Training Institute. The first day of training will cover the Trauma Responsive Practices in Education training.  The second day of training will provide opportunities for teach-backs and facilitation practice.

The 8-hour Trauma Responsive Practices in Education course provides foundational and intermediate-level training on Adverse Childhood Experiences, brain and body adaptations to trauma, the window of tolerance and state-dependent functioning. Content is tailored for application in the education setting.

Participants will learn strategies to promote regulation skills, build resiliency, and respond during emotional and behavioral crises.

The target audience is general and special education teachers, school health/mental health professionals, school administrators, paraprofessionals, and others who work in the education setting.

The learning objectives of the Trauma Responsive Practices in Education training are:  
1) Understanding of the impact of childhood trauma and its relationship with common mental health disorders.
2) Development of a trauma-informed lens.
3) Understanding behavior and the brain, including evidence-informed beliefs about behavior.
4) Understanding of factors that build resiliency.
5) Knowledge of what can be done to help a traumatized student using brain-based approaches.
6) Timeline of strategies for emotional and behavioral crises.
7) How to apply the essential elements of trauma responsive care in the education setting.
