2026 Urban Farmer Cohort

Application To Join The 2026 Urban Farmer Cohort

This program includes training, tools, plants and seeds, and access to growing space for growers in need. Participants will leave with an understanding of the New Orleans Urban Food System and how to grow food, flowers, herbs and more! This program is a collaborative endeavor with The Farm Service Agency of the USDA and Our Urban Agriculture Community.
We understand that things come up in life, and that's ok! We want participants to be as fully engaged in this program as possible. If you have questions or concerns before completing your application, email terence@sproutnola.org or mina@sproutnola.org
1.I understand this is a 6 week cohort and I am committed to attending the mandatory classes on Tuesdays. I'm committed to respecting all cohort members, instructors and growers.
2.What is your name, phone number, email, and preferred pronouns?
3.Tell us about your growing history. We welcome growers of all skill levels to join us. To better understand your experience and the training you've undertaken so far, please share a detailed picture of your background. Be sure to include:
-How long you've been gardening (beyond houseplants or outdoor potted plants)
-Do you have concerted training (internships, ongoing volunteer projects, school, etc.)
-Have you ever needed to sell or give away what you've produced? What was that process like?
4.Tell us about your relationship with the New Orleans Food System. Are you a native New Orleanian? New Community Gardener? Food Service Worker? Anything you think is relevant!
5.How important is it for you to make money growing food?
I want to do this as my job, exclusively. I am determined to make growing food my career.
I could go either way, it would be nice to make a little pocket change, but I have other career ambitions.
I want to do this for reasons other than money.
6.What kind of things are you most interested in participating in agriculture?
7.Do you have space to grow on currently
8.If you do have space to grow on, what is it like? Size, location, etc.
9.Please tell us what is important to you to share about your identity. This could be about race, gender, identity, orientation, relationship to land and food, etc. We strongly encourage BIPOC people and folks with a connection to Southern food ways to apply.
10.Anything else you want to share?
