* 1. Thank you for your interest in participating in a study at the Child Health and Behavior Lab in the Division of Behavioral Medicine at the University at Buffalo. First, we will share some information about the study before we determine your eligibility.

The overall purpose of this study is to determine the effort children spend working for snacks versus interactive reading with a parent. If your child is eligible for this study, both you and your child will attend a single visit to our office lasting about an hour and 30 minutes. Your child will click a mouse while playing a computer game to earn portions of snacks and/or minutes of reading with you (the parent).

We will also measure your child’s height and weight. You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire with questions about demographics and your and your child’s behavior. Upon completion of the study you will receive a $25 payment.

In order to determine eligibility for this study, we will ask you to answer an initial screening questionnaire. The screening questionnaire will take approximately 5 minutes and includes contact information, demographic questions, and questions about allergies or medical conditions that your child may have. Your participation in this screening process is completely voluntary, and you have the right to refuse to answer any questions. However, if you refuse to answer, then you will be deemed ineligible for this study. If this occurs, the screening process will end, and the information you provided will be deleted.

If, instead, you would like to ask study staff questions before proceeding with screening, you can call The Read With Me Study at 716-829-6694. Otherwise, clicking YES will indicate that you have no additional questions and that you voluntarily consent to participate in this study.
