Thorndale Community Centre

Approved in the 2019 Thames Centre budget is $2.8 million in order to design build a 15,000 square foot (based on budget estimates) community centre hall that will incorporate as many needs into a hall as required. The "sketch" of this includes space for a:

- Multi-use full sized gym that can also be used as a hall with stage (7000 sq ft)

- Full service kitchen

- Meeting room space(s) for community groups and rentals

- Possible Seniors Care space

- Possible Daycare space

The budget and space does not permit the ability to build an arena, a pool, etc. This is for a COMMUNITY CENTRE building only. I am looking for any feedback in regards to use of space, design considerations, etc that you have.

As soon as possible, with the possibility of having a new community centre by the end of 2019

Delay the construction period to after the Thorndale Fair, leaving the new community centre being completed into 2020

* 5. What do you see as the vision for the Progress Building? (Note: this is a decision of Council, NOT of the Committee)

Leave the Progress Building as is, with current uses

Tear down the Progress Building and replace with a concession booth/washroom building that is easily accessible and seen from all baseball/soccer fields/splash park, etc.

Upgrade the Progress Building to a more usable space (note: there is a structural engineer's report noting significant investments need to be made, current costs to run the building with little use is $12,000 per month. Also note that the new community centre is doubling the footprint currently available)

Tear down the Progress Building and do not replace with anything.
