The Peguis First Nation Chief and Council, in partnership with Public Safety Canada, are working together to develop a Peguis Community Safety Plan. This Plan seeks to be a holistic approach to community safety and will include the things that make us feel safe.

We want to explore safety in our homes, schools, at events, and at gatherings, Safety includes making sure we feel safe and comfortable when we are out on our roads, at playgrounds, in public places and spaces, and in our own yards. Community Safety includes making sure people in distress have access to the services they need when they need them, and the people who love them have the support and care they need too.

Chief and Council have assigned a lead on this project from the First Nation Safety Officer program. A committed team of department heads, Elders, and youth have been assembled to help develop this plan. The team’s goals include:

· Working with a facilitator, paid for by Public Safety, who will guide the process.

· Engaging community members to ensure we are getting a full and true picture of community safety issues and solutions.

· Setting goals based on community feedback.

· Developing a holistic Community Safety Plan that encompasses all sectors – Youth, Elders, and Community members, as well as a plan for implementation.
