We want your examples of loopy rules.

Federated Farmers is keen to hear from members who have experienced loopy council rules, so we can contribute to the Rules Reduction Taskforce.

Local Government Minister Paula Bennett has launched the Rules Reduction initiative, opening the way for people to submit examples of property regulations and local rules that are pedantic, unnecessary or just don’t make sense.

The Rules Reduction Taskforce will be jointly chaired by Jacqui Dean MP and Michael Barnett, Chief Executive of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The information gathered will inform the Taskforce, which will consider submissions and ultimately recommend any necessary changes.

The Minister is asking people who have experienced the issues caused by irrelevant or unnecessary regulations to help draw these to the Taskforce’s attention. This includes farmers who are at the sharp end of much local regulation.

We know that many members have encountered frustrating and impractical rules, and even rules that conflict between the regional council and the district council. Now is your chance to make these ridiculous rules known so we can effect sensible changes.
