Important Information

This application will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Before you start, have these ready to upload:
  • Proof of your single-parent status, preferably your signed 1040 federal tax form.
  • Your most recent transcript showing your grades and current enrollment
  • Documentation of your financial need
  • The total cost of the expense you're requesting help with

If RTB requests supporting documentation and it isn't received within 5 business days, the grant may be denied.

Eligibility
Scholar must:
  • Be a single-parent student with a dependent minor.
  • Be enrolled in at least 3 credits during summer, or 6 credits during the academic year.
  • Be enrolled in undergraduate programs or technical/certificate programs. Scholars enrolled in graduate programs or who have already received a Bachelor's Degree are not eligible.
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Be experiencing a financial hardship that threatens housing stability and can be resolved with a grant of $1,500 or less.
    Be able to provide documentation of the financial hardship (e.g., overdue bills, eviction notice).
  • Not have received a housing grant from RTB within the last 12 months and not applied within at least 6 months if previously denied
To qualify, your total household income must be at or below the amount listed for your household size circled in red in the table below. You will be asked to confirm this under penalty of perjury.
Because of funder restrictions, this grant only covers rent or mortgage — it can't cover utilities, internet, furniture, moving costs, or other housing-related expenses

Academic Progress
If you've had more than one withdrawal, failed class, or incomplete in the last two semesters, we ask you to explain what happened and how this support will help you improve going forward.

Fund Disbursement & Use
Funds are distributed directly to recipients.
For an outstanding or upcoming expense: funds must be used for the approved purpose within 14 days of receipt, and proof of use is required. If funds aren't used within this timeframe, RTB reserves the right to request their return and will require an explanation.


Please note: Scholars participating in a Raise The Barr cohort or living at the Huddle on 5th are NOT eligible for this grant. Applicants must live, work or go to school in Sacramento or Yolo county.
