A Study Investigating The Attitudes Towards Alcohol Consumption Between Employed and Unemployed Students.

Invitation

I would like to invite you to take part in a research project. Before you decide whether to take part it is important that you understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read this carefully and ask the researcher if you have any questions. Talk to others about the study if you wish.  

What is the purpose of the study?

This study aims to investigate if student’s attitudes towards alcohol consumption changes when they are employed.

Why have I been invited to take part?

You have received this invitation because you have responded to my research post online. I am hoping to recruit approximately 60-80 students for this study.

Do I have to take part?

No. It is up to you to decide whether or not you want to take part in this study. Please take your time to decide; I will wait for at least 2 days before asking for your decision. You can decide not to take part or to withdraw your data from the study at any point up until 4 weeks after you have taken part. If you wish to have your data withdrawn please contact the researcher with your participant number and your data will then not be used. If you do decide to take part you will be asked to sign a consent form.

What will happen to me if I agree to take part?

If you agree to take part you will:

·      Be given the questionnaire either online or in person dependant on your availability.

·      Present your attitudes towards alcohol on a scale as well as give your current employment status.

·      Complete the questionnaire at a leisurely pace online/in the classroom.

·      Complete the questionnaire in approximately 10 minutes and handed/sent back to the researcher.

·      Have your data recorded electronically, stored confidentially and analysed via SPSS.

 
Are there any disadvantages risks to taking part?

The research

·      Does ask for personal attitudes towards alcohol which can be classed as a sensitive topic.

·      All personal details and responses will be held with the upmost confidentiality and discretion.

 
Will the information I give stay confidential?

Everything you say/report is confidential unless you tell me something that indicates that you or someone else is at risk of harm. I would discuss this with you before telling anyone else. The information you give may be used for a research report, but it will not be possible to identify you from our research report or any other dissemination activities. Personal identifiable information (e.g. name and contact details) will be securely stored and kept for up to 6 weeks after the project ends in 1/4/15 and then securely disposed of. The research data (e.g. interview transcripts) will be securely stored and may be used for further research purposes.
