Survey for General Practitioners, Specialist Nurses and Allied Health Practitioners

The Federal Department of Health has funded PHNs to commission psychological treatment services over four years (FY2018-22) targeting the mental health needs of people living in residential aged care facilities.

The objective of the new funding is to provide a person-centred stepped care approach, so that a range of psychological treatment service types are accessible to best match the needs of individuals living in residential aged care.

A stepped care approach ensures services are optimally matched to individual need, does not under or over service them, and makes the best use of workforce and technology. A stepped care approach also presumes early intervention and having lower intensity steps available to support individuals before illness manifests.

The PHNs are seeking input from General Practitioners, Specialist Nurses and Allied Health Practitioners to ensure the stepped care service delivery model is co-designed to meet the needs of the individuals with mental illness in the region and ensure success through early engagement with all key stakeholders.

We appreciate your time in completing this short questionnaire, (estimated time to complete 10-15 minutes) to inform the development of the new service delivery model through the identification of:

-  Current unmet need for psychological treatment for people with mental illness in aged care facilities (early intervention, mild- moderate and severe/episodic) and impact on consumers and carers

- Barriers to access and delivery of services

-  Future service delivery model opportunities to address gaps, build capability and improve quality of life for people with mental illness in residential aged care.

The survey results will complement the consultation undertaken with key stakeholders throughout April – May 19. Thank you for participating in this project that will make a difference in the quality of life for people with mental illness in Residential Aged Care Facilities.
