"Starting out as little seedlings it is hard to envision the grand forest that young trees will someday become. Each individual tree focuses on growing strong roots and supporting the limbs and leaves they contain. As they reach for the sunlight the gaps between them continue to lessen. Together the forest is stronger than any one individual tree. It provides the perfect environment in which others can flourish.”
We give these awards to honor individuals, programs, and/or organizations that have created or supported activities, events, and opportunities that positively impact the health and well being of the Burlington community. Special interest is given to nominations with a direct impact on substance abuse and misuse. The awards are presented by their peers and loved ones in our annual celebration.
Award Categories:
Business: This award is given to a business that contributes to the overall success of substance abuse prevention and health and wellness in the Burlington community. Some examples include: (1) a local bar or restaurant that has implemented policies to reduce underage sales of alcohol or overselling; (2) a retailer who limits tobacco and alcohol advertising in their store and promotes healthy alternatives for youth and adults.
Organization or Individual: An individual or an organization who has contributed to creating a healthier environment in Burlington.
Youth & Families: An individual, program or organization who created or supported the youth and/or families of Burlington in a way that has a positive impact on substance abuse prevention.
D.G Weaver Award: The Burlington Partnership is proud to honor the late assistant principal of Burlington High School, D.G. Weaver, by giving this annual award to a person associated with the Burlington schools who is a positive role model and who goes “above and beyond” to support healthy opportunities/activities for our youth, either as a staff or volunteer.
