An Initiative of Girls Inc. of Greater Miami
WHO WE ARE We are a group of 150+ strong, committed, and dynamic women, pledging to make a difference in the lives of girls and women in our community. Established in 2017 as Strong Girls, Inc., we proudly joined the national Girls Inc. network in 2021 to expand our reach and deepen our impact across Miami.
WHAT WE DO Girls Inc. of Greater Miami’s mission is to inspire all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold.
Trained facilitators at our elementary through high school programs incorporate Social and Emotional Learning to teach young girls critical skills that help prevent adverse childhood experiences from becoming toxic stress, a factor that can lead to lifelong problems in learning, behavior, and physical and mental health. We envision our girls graduating from high school with the capacity, determination, and support needed to become strong, independent, confident women.
WHY WE DO IT Informed by girls and their families, we tackle the systemic barriers that affect the conditions in which girls are growing up, particularly those with the fewest resources. We work to ensure girls have the knowledge, resources, and skills to live healthy lives and access meaningful educational opportunities. The work that we do changes the trajectory of girls’ lives and sets them up for lifelong success. Girls are innately powerful, and they are the strong, smart, and bold leaders our future needs. When girls are given the tools and opportunities to succeed, not only do they change their own circumstances, they also change the circumstances of others around them. THEY CHANGE THE WORLD!
WHAT WILL I DO Mentor. Girls Inc. of Greater Miami is also a mentoring organization. You may have an opportunity to share your career path and offer career advice to our girls. You may be contacted by one of our girls for a mentoring session. Our Founder and President, Virginia Akar, will hold a brief coaching session for our 150+ Strong Women on our strategies for mentoring our girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold for any member that would like to participate.
Network. Connect with other liked minded 150+ Women Strong. You will have the opportunity to come together quarterly to get to know one another on a deeper level. Mark your calendars for a cocktail trunk show September 9th at Ximena Kavalekas.

Our desire is to expose our girls to a diverse group of women whose lived experiences, cultural backgrounds, and careers are reflective of the girls and the communities we serve.
