Your Views on the Shambles Design Concept |
Working with local architects PKA, we have asked them to redesign the interior of the Shambles so that it can deliver 4 agreed objectives , which are as follows:-
- The Shambles should encourage business enterprise.
- The Shambles should support community events.
- The Shambles should be a safe and welcoming space alongside its food and beverage offering.
- The Shambles should actively promote the town as a great place to visit.
We also set other ambitions that we hope the project will achieve to ensure the next generation inherits a market hall /community building with a long future, and these ambitions are as follows;
- An increase in energy efficiency for the whole building, with improved ventilation air extraction, heating and lighting.
- That the lower hall be fitted out in such a way that it can be used as a community space when needed, or as a market hall.
- That the services in the lower hall are improved to give greater access to water, drainage and power, ensuring greater flexibility to meet the changing needs of market traders.
- That the toilet facilities are upgraded to a higher standard.
- That any proposed changes to the building are in accordance with its listing.
- That all finishes are to a high standard to reflect the importance of the building within the town centre retail offer.
We hope you will take some time to look at what is proposed and give your views on the concept and whether you think the project will deliver the stated objectives and ambitions
