* 16. Violet works with a group of women in Tubrahalli, Bangalore. This is a cluster which does not have access to basic infrastructure and facilities like water and electricity. The families live in temporary tarpaulin sheds and the women from this community predominantly work with the municipal corporation as pourakarmikas. Violet creates awareness among these communities on menstrual health, reproductive health and hygienic practices.
During this session, she was having a conversation with the women on myths and taboos that surround menstruation. She gave an example of how women are not allowed to enter temples because they are considered impure during menstruation. She strongly stated that it is a wrong practice and that the women can enter temples. However, one of the women in the group was offended and objected to Violet’s opinion, but, Violet did not like the fact that she was being questioned. The meeting turned out to be a heated argument between the two women, while the other women started to slowly walk away.
As a result, Violet could neither complete her session and nor could she go back to the community because they did not want to engage with her.

* 17. How did you hear about The Period Fellowship?
