Instructions for Survey

In May 2018 the US Department of Education (US ED) approved Alaska’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Plan. This plan outlined how The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) would address all of the required components of ESSA. Components of the plan include statewide summative assessments, school accountability, school improvement, educator qualification, and plans for how Title programs will support schools and districts.

After adhering to the ESSA State Plan as written, a few sections of the plan need to be revised. The revisions include changes to comply with new federal requirements or updates that reflect the needs and unique challenge of Alaska’s districts and schools.

Each proposed revision has gone through a consultation process with stakeholders who are directly affected by the change. Additional stakeholder input is requested to ensure that the proposed revisions have received adequate review.

This survey provides stakeholders with an opportunity to weigh in on the proposed revisions.

Three sections of the plan have proposed revisions.

   *  Title I-C Education of Migratory Children
   *  Title III-A Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students
   *  Statewide Accountability System and School Support and Improvement Activities

For each revised section of the plan, there will be a short summary within this survey and a link to the proposed changes. The proposed change documents have a strikethrough over current language and new proposed language added. All of the changes are denoted by red text. DEED is required to provide these “red line” versions of the state plan to US ED. Due to the size of some of these documents, links to the “red line” documents are provided in each section.

For each proposed change in the State Plan, you will be asked to:

1.  Accept the change as is,
2.  Accept the change with revisions. A text box will be provided for you suggestions or comments, or
3.  Reject the change. A text box will be provided for your suggestions or comments.

Visit the Alaska State Plan webpage for the proposed revisions supporting documents.
