MNADV's Legislative Survey |
Legislative Survey
The MNADV is seeking input from service providers, allied professionals, and key partners to help the MNADV determine its domestic violence legislative priorities for the 2017 Legislative Session. The purpose of our legislative advocacy is to improve victim/survivor safety and security and ensure abuser accountability. The purpose of this survey is to identify issues or problems that may be appropriate for legislative advocacy.
Every year, after receiving input from a broad variety of sources, the MNADV selects domestic violence legislative priorities, reviews all legislation introduced for impact on domestic violence and determines positions and actions (support or oppose), coordinates and works in coalition with advocates, service providers, and key allies and partners to determine strategy and activities, and supports the efforts of others on related legislation. The MNADV also works with the Maryland Legislative Agenda for Women (MLAW) on broader issues affecting women and families.
The MNADV focuses its efforts on the following general areas:
- Domestic violence-related crimes (e.g., assault, stalking, penalties)
- Protective and peace orders (e.g., eligibility, relief)
- Family law (e.g., divorce, child custody, child support, visitation)
- Related issues (e.g., earned sick leave, employment, housing, insurance, health care, discrimination)
In your work with survivors, do you know about an issue or problem that could be addressed in the upcoming legislative session? Check one or more categories as appropriate and briefly describe the problem that requires a legislative change.
