Venomous Snake Training

This survey is to gauge the level of interest in providing a PARC-sponsored venomous snake safety and handling class. This training would be available to all interested parties.
Material covered would include:
How and when it is appropriate to move a snake
Snakes of the local area/region
Venomous species
Confusing non-venomous species
Rare species
Snake ecology, physiology and behavior
Activity periods
Thermoregulation
Habitat
The science on snake relocation thus far
General safety and first aid
Venom vs. poison
Properties of different types of venom
Snake-bite facts
Proper first aid
Live snake practice!!
Tools, techniques, and manipulation
1-hook technique
2-hook technique
1-hook-and-tongs technique
Containment and labeling
Who would provide the training?
Adaptation Environmental, an environmental consulting group in Denver, Colorado.
What?
10-12 participants per 8-hour training (part indoors and part outdoors); several sessions can run simultaneously
When?
March 2, 3, and/or 4 - depending on the preferences and number of interested parties. These dates were chosen due to their proximity to the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference, which will be in Denver, Colorado. PARC's Joint National Steering Committee and many PARC partners attend this meeting every year.
Where?
Specific location TBD, but in or near Denver, Colorado
Why?
We want people to feel comfortable moving snakes safely, so that there is no injury to the person or the snake.
How much?
$300 per person
What does "PARC-sponsored" mean?
The material was reviewed and promotes the mission of PARC. This specific training would promote the conservation of snakes, educate participants about snake biology, and facilitate snake conservation by minimizing negative human-snake interactions.
