Dear prospective YAB member--thank you for your interest in being a part of our board for the 2021-2022 school year. Being a part of YAB is a big commitment, but also a wonderful opportunity for growth, leadership, and service.

After receiving your application, myHealth staff will review applications and select candidates for interviews (held summer of 2021). Not all candidates who apply will receive interviews, and not all candidates who are interviewed will be offered a position on the board.

As a member of the Youth Advisory Board you will:
-Be a vital part of myHealth and support the organization's work to ensure youth voices are represented and valued.
-Gain knowledge on health topics and strengthen skills as a peer educator.
-Have a significant board member position to list on college or job applications
-Be eligible to receive a signed letter of recommendation for you to use as you need*
-Develop leadership, communication, and group collaboration abilities
-Work with other passionate young people from local high schools

Participation and Attendance
-Attend all scheduled bi-weekly meetings and events. If you cannot attend, you must let the communications chair and the myHealth YAB facilitator know 48 hours prior to the scheduled meeting or event. No more than three (3) unexcused absences will be allowed during the year.
-Reply to all texts/GroupMe from myHealth staff and other YAB members in a timely manner so they know you have received the message.
-During virtual meetings, please have video on and stationary unless there is an extenuating circumstance.
-Commit to assisting with preparation, set up, clean up or work during or before the myHealth Gala (held in early October pending pandemic safety). 
-As part of a small group within YAB: plan, execute, and review a community-based project that focuses on health promotion. For example, past committee projects have included community fundraising events, concerts, and topic-based projects such as:
  • Racial Justice: Lead a community-based discussion event about racial justice and then presented a similar program to myHealth staff at an all-staff meeting. 
  • Mental Health: Developed informational graphics about mental health concerns to be posted on myHealth social media and hung up in the clinic.
  • Community Organizing: Organized a winter clothing drive to collect coats, mittens, hats, etc. at the clinic and donated items to local organization ResourceWest.
  • Sustainability: Organized a fundraiser to sell used clothing on Depop with proceeds going to myHealth.

Marketing and Review
-Review myHealth printed materials, education presentations, and marketing campaigns, and clinic services as needed. 
-Be the face of myHealth at your school by representing the programs and services we offer for young people ages 12-26 and refer others to us when relevant.
-Have your photograph, first name, and story used in media related to myHealth's Youth Advisory Board. If you are under 18, this will require a photo-release SIGNED by your parents. Please note that if you are a client, that information will not be revealed to anyone, including family members (per the MN minor consent law), the only information shared will be that you are a member of the Youth Advisory Board. 

Community Engagement
-Set up an informational table at your school 2x per year (one per semester) or the virtual equivalent.
-Interact positively and enthusiastically with community members while tabling, volunteering or doing peer education.
