Program Description:

The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center will host a four-part learning collaborative focused on culturally inclusive and affirming approaches designed to help health centers meet the needs of Black and African American transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people. We will hear from community partners to provide insights into how health care organizations can leverage partnerships to enhance the safety and wellbeing of Black and African American TGD people and their communities. Participants will learn strategies for mitigating risk by identifying and amplifying individual and community-level protective factors and strengths. In addition, we will review the current legal landscape in order to gain understanding of the impacts of anti-trans legislation, as well as learning protective laws and policies to implement.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Explain the barriers and challenges that Black and African American TGD people often experience when seeking health care and wellness support.
  2. Apply best practices to build affirming health care experiences for Black and African American TGD communities.
  3. Discover how health systems can positively influence social determinants of health to improve health outcomes and health equity for Black and African American TGD communities.
  4. Describe how medical legal partnerships can play a role in supporting the wellbeing of TGD people.
