Welcome to the BOS eFAROS Operational Evaluation survey. Be advised that all your responses are kept strictly confidential by MIT Lincoln Laboratory and will be used for research only.



Please respond and comment about your assessment of eFAROS at BOS. Please circle or check the appropriate answer for each question. Any question may be left blank at your discretion.

* 1. I agree with the eFAROS operational concept, which is to prevent runway incursions and accidents by directly alerting pilots that a runway is occupied and unsafe to land.

* 2. eFAROS will help me feel safer while landing at the airport.

* 3. I have observed eFAROS with PAPIs flash in response to traffic at least once.

* 11. Flashing PAPIs for eFAROS did not distract me from my normal scan.

* 13. I did not land with flashing PAPIs even when cleared to do so by ATC.

* 14. I did not interpret eFAROS "off" (steady PAPI signal) as clearance to land.

* 15. I assumed the runway was no longer occupied when I observed the PAPIs stop flashing on eFAROS equipped runways .

* 16. I am aware of runway conflict situations that eFAROS would have helped prevent.

* 17. If I observe flashing PAPIs while located on the runway or taxiways, I will not not call the tower unless a safety concern exists.

* 18. eFAROS with flashing PAPIs will turn on when landing aircraft reach approximately 1.5 nmi from the runway threshold and the runway is occupied. This is an appropriate distance to intensify scan for traffic on runway.

* 19. There is sufficient time to respond to eFAROS given an acquisition point of approximately 500 ft AGL.

* 20. The eFAROS contact point of approximately 300 ft AGL provides sufficient reaction time to ATC commands or clearance.

* 21. The eFAROS contact point of approximately 300 ft AGL is suitable to limit unnecessary calls to tower ATC.

* 22. I am comfortable executing a go around when viewing eFAROS below the contact point for the type aircraft I usually fly.
