2026’s Competition Article - Macramé Necklace

Thank you for your interest in entering this year’s Evelyn Baxter Trophy competition. We’re looking forward to seeing your entries!

This year's article is “Macramé Necklace”.

The necklace must display techniques taught at the Beginners' Macramé classes taught in 2025 and Entries should broadly follow the provided pattern while allowing space for your own interpretation and personal style. Click here to download the pattern.

The completed article will be judged on:
  • Suitability of materials
  • Workmanship
  • Individual Flair
  • General Finish
  • Adherence to the brief
This year the Evelyn Baxter Competition is open to all attendees of the 'Beginners Macramé' classes, taught by Evelyn Baxter scholars, Sharon Murdoch, Caitlin Davidson, Pam Goodwin & Hazel Lawson.

The Evelyn Baxter competition will be exhibited at the new Members' Gathering (formerly the National Conference) in the Apex Hotel, Dundee on the 11th & 12th of September 2026.

Only one entry should be submitted per pupil for judging.

Important notes
  • Each competitor will be responsible for their own entry being suitably packed for transporting and delivered to SWI central office either by hand or post.
  • All entries should be delivered to SWI Central Office, Unit 8, 1 Carmichael Place, Edinburgh, EH6 5PH no later than Friday, August 21st 2026.
  • An entry fee of £6 should accompany this entry form which is non-returnable to central office.
  • All entries should be clearly labelled before being received at the Central Office. Please make sure the label ONLY includes your membership number to keep the competition anonymous to the judges.
Please note: No late entries will be accepted. SWI cannot be held responsible for an entry arriving damaged or late. Please consider whether you would like to arrange your own insurance cover for entries. If you wish your entry acknowledged, please send a stamped addressed envelope or email address.

Please note: If you wish your entry to be returned by post please add a £5 postage fee. Otherwise, all entries will be included in an exhibition for the SWI Members' Gathering attendees. These will then be donated to charity and won’t be returned unless stated and paid for otherwise.
