The Central Library is seeking individuals, community organizations, businesses, and library staff to take part in our 2026 How-To Festival this September. The festival is designed to give patrons the opportunity to learn a little about a lot. Whether you have a skill to teach, expertise to share, or a cause to promote, we'd love to hear from you!
What is the How-To Festival?
The Central Library's How-To Festival is an all-ages event where patrons learn “how to” do new things! For a few hours, the library is filled with people sharing skills, hobbies, knowledge, community resources, and hands-on activities. Topics can range from creative and practical skills to local organizations and services. Patrons, for example, can learn how to write songs, how to create cyanotypes, and how to fix a flat tire.
When will the How-To Festival take place?
Our inaugural How-To Festival will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
What does participation involve?
Participants can choose from two primary formats: tables and presentations.
Tables are staffed throughout the entire festival, allowing patrons to stop by at their convenience. A table can be purely informational, such as providing materials and answering questions about your topic, or it can include a hands-on activity that engages attendees while sharing information.
Presentations are scheduled at a specific time during the festival and may take the form of either an informational session or an interactive workshop. If your topic requires a more in-depth explanation than can easily be provided at a table, a presentation may be the best fit.
Space is limited! Demonstrations will be selected based on a variety of factors, including topic diversity, community interest, and suitability for the library setting. While we would love to include every submission, space and scheduling limitations may prevent us from accommodating all applicants. Thank you for your understanding.
