The Residency Elective in Health Policy is offered every Spring for residents and fellows in the Southern California and Northern California Kaiser Permanente regions. There are two components to the course. The first is a series of web-based learning modules during the one-month preceding the in-person elective. These can be viewed and completed at the convenience of the participant.

The second is an intensive, in-person course to take place at the Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, from Monday May 6, 2019 to Friday, May 17, 2019. This includes daily afternoon site visits to a variety of organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles area. During these dates, residents will engage in a full-time schedule (e.g., in-person activities 8am-5pm with some occasional evening events). Participants will be expected to have cleared their schedules for this two week period (not including the weekends).

Interested residents and fellows must complete this application to be considered for the elective. We are committed to a program that embraces racial, ethnic, gender, and disciplinary diversity, and we encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds to apply. In addition, candidates should:

• Demonstrate significant interest in public health and health policy;
• Be highly regarded by those overseeing their clinical duties and educational activities;
• Exhibit leadership capabilities, including setting high personal goals and motivating others;
• Be self-directed, as evidenced by past professional accomplishments;
• Possess strong communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 26, 2018, to participate in the elective. Applications will be reviewed and decisions will be emailed to applicants by Monday, November 12th, 2018. Residents and fellows accepted to the course must confirm their participation by Friday, November 16, 2018.

REHP is co-directed by Dr. Moises Cruz, SCMPG Physician and Regional Director of the Kaiser Community Medicine Fellowship and Dr. Neil Chawla, SCPMG Physician and Clinical Faculty of Family & Community Medicine.
