DCPA is holding their 2013 election. Please select from the following candidates for the 2014 Student Representative position on the DCPA Board of Directors. Deadline to submit your ballot is December 17th.
Below is the Student Representative candidate statement for Ronald Simpson. (No other candidate statements were submitted.):
My name is Ron Simpson and I am a second year doctoral student at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am writing to you today to ask for your support in becoming the next Student Representative to the board. My CV speaks to the myriad and diversity of my professional experiences. My self statement will speak to my fitness to serve my fellow students and the organization as Student Representative.
I am a nontraditional student, an African-American, male, and in the midst of a career change, all reasons why I may be an excellent fit for the DCPA board. As a nontraditional student (and former traditional student), I understand the viewpoint, challenges, and expectations of a great many students. As an African-American male, I represent a truly underrepresented point of view in the professional psychology arena. And as a person in the midst of a career change, I understand the particular pressures this type of student is experiencing. Additionally, I have worked very closely during the past year with Angela Legner, the current Student Representative. In doing so, I have had the opportunity to work with many of the current board members and learn about the workings and needs of the organization. These points, along with my diverse work experience, make me a unique fit to represent the student members of our organization.
Thank you for considering me as the next Student Representative. Regardless of the outcome, I will continue to support the organization in any way I can.
