What Kind of Music Do You Want to Hear?

Your opinion matters! Tell us what kind of music you'd like to enjoy at this year’s Summer Concert Series. Your vote will help determine who takes the stage at Constitution Park on the following Saturdays: June 13th, June 27th, July 11th and July 25th. You have until January 31 to cast your votes for your top four genres. The Summer Concert Series is brought to you by Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District and the City of Camarillo.

Rock & Roll - a style of music that began in the mid-1960s, with the garage and blues rock movements. Rock & Roll music has a greater emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude. Examples include: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Queen, Van Halen, The Beatles, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen.

Country - a style and genre of largely string-accompanied American popular music having roots in the folk music of the Southeast and cowboy music of the West, usually vocalized, generally simple in form and harmony, and typified by romantic or melancholy ballads accompanied by acoustic or electric guitar, banjo, violin, and harmonica. Examples include: Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Florida Georgia Line, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain.

Rhythm & Blues / Soul - a style of music developed by African Americans that combines blues and jazz, characterized by a strong backbeat and repeated variations on syncopated instrumental phrases. Examples include: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Amy Winehouse, Otis Redding, and James Brown.

Jazz - an American music developed especially from ragtime and blues and characterized by propulsive syncopated rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, varying degrees of improvisation, and often deliberate distortions of pitch and timbre, popular dance music played in a loud rhythmic manner. Examples include: Louis Daniel Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald.

Reggae - a style of Jamaican popular music blending blues, calypso, and rock-'n'-roll, characterized by a strong syncopated rhythm and lyrics of social protest. Examples include: Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff.

Disco - a popular dance music characterized by hypnotic rhythm, repetitive lyrics, and electronically produced sounds. Examples include: Bee Gees, Earth Wind and Fire, KC and The Sunshine Band.

Hip Hop/Rap - cultural movement that attained widespread popularity in the 1980s and ’90s; also, the backing music for rap, the musical style incorporating rhythmic and/or rhyming speech that became the movement’s most lasting and influential art form. Examples include: Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Drake, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G.

Pop - genre of popular music that produces the most hits. Pop songs have a good rhythm, a catchy melody, and are easy to remember and sing along to. They usually have a chorus that's repeated several times and two or more verses. Examples include: Madonna, Justin Timberlake/NSYNC, Prince, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Whitney Houston
