Teach English, Share Conversation and Enjoy a Free Coffee Every Week Advance Diversity Services is inviting Expressions of Interest to participate in our upcoming Coffee and Conversation Project.
The Project aims to build a stronger, more connected community by bringing together local residents and new arrivals for one hour of relaxed, real-life conversation each week. These informal sessions help new arrivals strengthen their English conversational skills while fostering meaningful connections across the community.
We are seeking 10 volunteer Coffee Buddies from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, generations and representing all walks of life. As a Coffee Buddy you will:
- Be comfortable engaging in relaxed, one-on-one conversations with English learners.
- Be available every Tuesday from 08 September to 20 October 2026, between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.
- Be interested in supporting new arrivals as they settle into the Georges River community.
- Have a good level of English proficiency. No teaching experience is required.
- Be available to participate in a short telephone interview and attend a one-hour online induction session.
- Be friendly, patient, and enjoy meeting and connecting with new people
What's Involved?
- Join us for every Tuesday at The Caffeine Garden Cafe for a relaxed café conversation with an English conversation student
- Chat about everyday topics such as hobbies, work, food, family, travel, and life in Australia.
- Enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea
What You'll Receive
- A free coffee during the session.
- The opportunity to meet people from different cultures, including residents from our newly arrived Ukrainian and Palestinian communities
- A certificate upon completion.
