Environmental Sustainability and Waste Project - Short Survey and Expressions of Interest |
The AHA|SA is looking at ways to help its members and add value to its membership in a range of areas.
One of these is in the areas of sustainability, including resource management, waste and energy and how our members can meet changing legislation (single-use plastics bans) and increase efficiency and sustainability in their businesses.
We are aware that some members may already be working to be more sustainable and have a commitment to that, while others focus remains on economic outcomes. Food and other waste from businesses represent a huge lost resource, lost money and generate a lot of greenhouse gases. While we understand some edible food waste is donated to charity, other food waste is not. Waste recovery contracts comprise a large business cost.
With the potential support of SA State Government, the AHA|SA is scoping a project which involves research and the ultimate provision of environmental/waste information/factsheets to inform our members on how to reduce their waste, particularly green waste and food waste, increase resource efficiency with an intention as well that this saves businesses money. As part of this potential project, the AHA|SA would also set up a Business Reference Group to guide this project. Is it expected the Group would meet every 6-8 weeks (approx) for around one year and these meetings may be virtual. Taskforce members’ business premises may also be invited to be used as test cases to measure/report and implement changes to reduce food and other waste and increase resource recovery.
To this end I invite AHA|SA members to complete the following questionnaire to gauge your businesses’ interest in this topic.
