The goal of Energize Des Moines is to reduce energy and water consumption by at least 10% in participating buildings across Des Moines by 2020, with a primary focus on the central business district. Energize Des Moines will utilize substantive energy and water efficiency upgrades of municipal, commercial, institutional, hospitality, and multifamily buildings as a means of fostering new business opportunities and creating more sustainable footprints. Participants are asked to support this initiative by advocating for energy efficiency and developing innovative partnerships and approaches. Public recognition and awards will be provided on an annual basis beginning in 2018.
As a Building Participant, your organization agrees to the following:
Select one property (or, if applicable, multiple properties) to participate in Energize Des Moines. Note: Property may be used as a case study for future program participants.
Benchmark energy and water usage; conduct assessment of building energy and water efficiency either internally, via MidAmerican Energy and/or third-party vendor to develop strategies for improving efficiency.
Identify at least on efficiency project and implement it.
Agree to share building utility data with the City of Des Moines, as well as public promotion of Energize Des Moines and its progress. Note: Unless the Participant agrees otherwise, its utility data will be treated confidentially and reported anonymously.
Energize Des Moines agrees to provide:
Guidance and resources dedicated to achievement of 10% reduction goals by 2020
Events, education and training for best practices in water and energy efficiency
National and local recognition for your organization
