As the Cañon City School District continues working to provide all students opportunities to reach their greatest potential, it is soliciting feedback from community members about what is most important to them.  Please help us make important decisions by taking 5 minutes of your time to answer this 16 question survey.

In 2016, Cañon City School District received a $900,000 Colorado Early Literacy Grant allowing the district to hire literacy coaches for K-5 schools who support improved reading instruction and train staff in research proven reading interventions which support our readers who struggle most.  First year data show this is working.  How important is it for the school district to sustain this literacy initiative after the grant expires in 2019?

If the district could secure a $38 million grant to complete $58 million worth of facilities upgrades (including new Washington Elementary and Cañon City Middle School buildings), while also attending to the major health, safety, security and building structure needs of all other buildings, would you be willing to pay $45 extra in taxes per year on a house valued at $100,000 over the course of 20 years to do so?

If we get the grant referenced in the last question (allowing us to build a brand new Cañon City Middle School), and if you knew the cost to demolish all of the current Cañon City Middle School building would cost the district $525,000, while the demolition of all but the 1925 portion of the building (while also bringing it up to code for re-purposing) would cost $7 million, would you be willing to raise your annual property tax bill by a total of $66 per year for 20 years on a house valued at $100,000?

* 10. I am aware, because of the way the school finance act is written, Cañon City School District only receives only 95% of Colorado's average funding per pupil.  This amounts to about $350 per student, for a total shortfall of approximately $1.3 million per year.
