* 14. The Southwest Virginia Governor's School (SWVGS) is designed to meet and challenge students with a high aptitude and interest in science and mathematics.  Students apply in their 10th grade year and are considered for entry based on their standardized test scores, academic achievement (especially math and science), teacher recommendations, and evidence of their interest in science and mathematics.  Students enrolled in the SWVGS typically attend the Governor's school in the AM and return to their home school before lunch for afternoon classes.
