National Traveller Mental Health Network -NTRIS Survey Connacht
Travellers in Connacht
The National Traveller & Roma Inclusion Strategy or NTRIS, as it is referred to in short, was established in 2017 by the Irish Government to identify and address the issues that are impacting on the Traveller and Roma communities in Ireland in consultation with all the national Traveller organisations. It is chaired by the Minister of State with responsibility for Equality, to ensure that an emphasis is given across Government, to making progress and in relation to implementation of the strategy. Unfortunately the NTRIS has not delivered on most of the recommendations that was in the strategy, particularly in relation to Traveller mental health. This NTRIS strategy comes to an end at the end of this year and there will be a new NTRIS strategy developed in 2022 .
It is very important to ensure that the collective voice of Travellers are represented and that key issues are identified and implemented in any new NTRIS strategy, particularly in relation to Traveller mental health.
This survey and consultation that the National Traveller Mental health network is carrying is to ensure that this is the case, and that the collective voice of Travellers in relation to mental health is included in any new NTRIS Strategy that is developed.
