April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Distracted driving includes using your cell phone in any capacity, eating, putting on makeup, shaving, or any other activity that shifts your focus from driving to another task. It is a serious problem in the United States, and it causes 25% of driving-related fatalities.

This month, the Boston area Level I Trauma centers are asking you to pledge to give up just one of these sources of distraction: your cell phone. We see severe injuries and fatalities everyday from motor vehicle and bicycle crashes, some of which could have been prevented if only a cell phone hadn't been in use. Remember: Read the road, not your phone!
