2025 AHP Survey

Aim

The aim of this survey is to explore the role of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) across Europe, with a particular focus on:
  • Understanding further the role of AHPs in the clinical environment, including the extent to which AHPs are included in clinical decision-making
  • The barriers and challenges AHPs face in effective collaboration
  • The current legal and practical frameworks regarding AHP prescribing rights for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition
  • Professionals’ perspectives on future directions for AHP integration and autonomy
  • To understand more about barriers to AHPs and nurses joining ESPGHAN.
By collecting insights from a broad range of AHPs across different European countries, this survey seeks to provide a cross-national understanding of similarities and differences in practice, regulation, and recognition.

Expected Results

We expect the results to:
  • Highlight variation between European countries in terms of AHP roles, autonomy, and prescribing rights.
  • Identify common challenges faced by AHPs in MDTs (e.g., lack of recognition, communication issues, regulatory barriers).
  • Demonstrate the added value of AHP involvement in patient care, particularly in relation to clinical decision-making and nutrition support.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to strengthen AHP integration, recognition, and autonomy within European healthcare systems.
  • Contribute to the wider discussion on professional regulation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the optimisation of patient outcomes.
