Survey Introduction
Thank you for your interest in completing this survey.
My name is Leigh-Anne Peper, and I am pursuing my M.Ed in special education at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. My M.Ed thesis and research is on the school experiences of people who are both LGBTQ and received special education support or services for a learning disability ("LD").
In addition to my graduate studies, I'm a middle school special education teacher and club advisor of my school's Gay-Straight Alliance, so this research is of particular professional and personal importance to me. The goal of this research is to help LGBTQ/LD students; there is currently very little research on this student population, and it's necessary to help increase acceptance and improve educational outcomes for our students.
This question survey is intended for respondents who are 18 or older, received special education services in school for a learning disability, and are members of the LGBTQ community. The survey responses will be used exclusively for academic purposes, and will be completely anonymous.
The questions are both demographic (age, assigned sex at birth, gender identity, level of education, what kind of setting your education took place in) and feeling or perception-based (such as how you felt about your special education experiences, and whether or not you were bullied). All of the questions are multiple choice except one, which is a short answer. You are not obligated in any way to complete the survey once you have started it, and may stop at any time if you wish.
Again, thank you for your interest in this survey, and if you have any questions, please contact me at lpeper@carthage.edu.
