Wills Creek owners may recall that at the last AGM, approval was granted for the purchase and installation of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)—a portable medical device that can be critical in responding to cardiac arrest when used in combination with CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). AEDs have been commercially available since the 1990s and are now commonly installed in public locations such as airports, recreation centres, and
residential communities.
These devices are designed to be user-friendly. An AED can detect life-threatening heart rhythms and deliver a controlled electric shock to help restore a normal heartbeat. When used promptly—especially alongside CPR—it can significantly improve the chance of survival while awaiting emergency responders.
While the AED provides clear, verbal step-by-step instructions, some basic training in CPR and AED use will increase both confidence and readiness in an emergency. Two retired physicians from our community have recently completed a certified training course and strongly encourage others to consider doing the same.
An AED has been purchased and will be installed in the Amenities Building. A small committee has been formed to support the smooth implementation of our AED program and to address any questions or concerns. Please take a few minutes to complete the attached survey. It will help us assess the community’s interest, as well as the existing knowledge and experience among owners.
Your participation is appreciated.
