Head up direct response copywriting for the biggest business brand in marijuana.  As seen in the WSJ, Marijuana Business Daily (@MJBizDaily) has been the most trusted B2B news publisher and trade show producer in the industry since 2011.  Based in Denver, CO, this full-time position offers room for growth, strong benefits and the ability to work from home if you choose for 20-hours per week.

As Copy Head and Assistant Creative Director, you will report directly to the department head and work alongside a full team of skilled branding, design, database, social, PR and a/b testing professionals. You will also supervise and mentor a junior copywriter, as well as directly influence much of the company’s web, email, and ad design.

This is not a content marketing role - your focus will be entirely on persuasive copywriting and optimized design that:
  • Converts qualified followers & visitors to email opt-ins
  • Gets more executives to buy our books & reports
  • Entices major investors to subscribe to our services
  • Convinces tens of thousands of entrepreneurs to pay to attend our trade shows in the US and abroad
You will craft copy and influence design across all media channels - both online and off - including email, social, PPC, landing pages, e-commerce microsites, podcast audio ads, magazine ads and postal direct mail. Our department is high-volume, rolling out campaigns for roughly 12 major products per year ranging from niche email newsletters, to high end reports, and paid registrations for industry-wide trade shows.

This role requires significant passion for and experience in all facets of direct response copywriting including:
  • Persona and market research-based creative
  • Copy for database marketing to highly targeted audiences
  • Familiarity with eyetracking, click paths and CRO 
  • Landing page, microsite and ecommerce cart best practices
  • Email, social, PPC and postal mail marketing
  • A/B testing beyond email subject lines
  • Guiding web & graphic designers in conversion-optimized design
  • Mentoring junior copywriters
Experience in B2B and in international markets is preferred but not required. We do not require experience in our specific marketplace – the right candidate can pick up a market fairly easily with our guidance and data. We are looking for copywriting and creative leadership chops.
