Welcome and thank you for participating in our survey.

This survey aims to help us better understand the roles women play in agriculture businesses, rural communities and industries. We would also like to find out how interested you are in participating in leadership roles and what sort of support would be useful to help you build your skills and confidence as a leader. These insights may help QFF develop programs that support leadership development amongst women in farm businesses and rural industries.

Your responses will be kept confidential, and will only be presented in aggregate form. For more information, please contact Jane Muller on 07 3620 3844 or jmuller@growcom.com.au

If you have any thoughts along the way, jot them down as you go. There is a space at the end of the survey where you can add any further comments.

The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

This survey is part of the Queensland Farmers Federation project, "Advancing leadership and business skills amongst Queensland’s farm business women”. This project is funded by the Office of Small Business under the Advancing Women in Business initiative. We are also excited to be working with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), the Queensland Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network (QRRRWN), CSIRO, AustSafe Super and Rabobank.

I would take on other roles/responsibilities outside my business or work if I felt I had more time
I have a clear sense of the skills and qualities I do (or could) bring to a leadership role
My partner, family and friends support me to consider or play leadership roles
I would be interested in a leadership role within my community or industry, however, at the moment it is more important that I focus on my own business/work/family
I have strong community/industry networks that I draw on to support me in the roles I play
I feel confident to voice my opinion or ideas in meetings or discussions
Sometimes I feel that people disregard or under-estimate my skills or knowledge because I am a woman
My ability to connect with people and/or to find and share information is one of my best assets
The succession arrangements for the business (or the lack of them) limit my opportunities to grow as a leader in my family, business or industry
I have a mentor or support person who helps me to think through options and develop my capabilities
Our need to reinvest money back into the business limits my opportunity to invest in personal and/or professional development
I think that other people may not recognise the skills and perspectives I could bring to a leadership role from my rural or farming background.
I make active choices about where I spend my time and resources to pursue my goals and interests
Not enough is done to showcase the valuable contributions women make to agricultural businesses or industries
Being a member of an industry association gives me valuable connections to people and information
I would feel confident to put myself forward for a leadership position

I would like a clearer understanding of the pathways and steps I could to take to move into a leadership position
I would like to be involved in a mentoring program specifically designed to help rural women develop their business and/or leadership skills (either as a mentee or a mentor)
There should be more scholarships or financial support for women to participate in Queensland-based leadership programs
More should be done to actively assist women to move into leadership roles in the Queensland agriculture sector
I encourage young women to aspire to become leaders within the agriculture community
Agriculture in Queensland offers many positive opportunities for employment and business growth
I believe I could help other women in agriculture to appreciate and achieve their potential by sharing my own experiences
Not enough is done to recognise and develop future leaders in agriculture so that they can represent the industry in the future
