Dear GFW Community,

One of the many things that drew me to GFW Public Schools was the sense of community and commitment shown by the students, families, and staff. It was evident that citizens throughout this district care about their students and want to work together to prepare them for a successful future. The district’s vision statement, “Growing Future World Class Leaders” is most definitely being fulfilled throughout our schools.

As I began my work as Superintendent, I identified four key priorities for the district:
  1. Address the district’s financial situation and set a stable and sustainable budget.
  2. Ensure a safe and effective learning environment for students.
  3. Develop a long-range facility plan that will meet the current and future needs of the district and communities.
  4. Engage our communities in listening sessions to develop a strategic plan for our district.

We have made great strides in all these areas. We have adjusted our operating expenses and made budget adjustments so that we are no longer in statutory operating debt, and project a positive fund balance of approximately $1,000,000. Our return to school plan has the systems in place to continue to mitigate the COVID-19 virus and allowed us to maintain an in-person learning environment with minimal interruptions. We have also listened to our community and completed a strategic planning process that focuses on improved educational experiences for our students, adding over 100 new learning opportunities including courses, additional support, and programming options.

The need to address our facilities remains. Throughout our listening sessions and strategic planning process, our community has asked us to expand programming focused on career and college readiness and local workforce development as well as to finalize a long-range facility plan that includes updated and expanded classrooms and labs to support these programs.

This survey is designed to provide you with important background information about the district’s facilities as well as gather critical data as we continue to develop the long-range facility plan that will guide the district’s facility needs for decades to come.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

Sincerely,

Jeff Horton
