Welcome

Thank you for your interest in this research comparing quality of life in people with partial foot and below-knee amputation.
My name is Michael Dillon. I am the chief investigator leading a small team of clinicians and researchers from La Trobe University Australia and Hanger Clinics, USA.

What is the study about?
Partial foot amputation is often preferred to below knee (transtibial) amputation given the belief that quality of life is better with a less invasive amputation surgery.

Only a couple of studies have measured quality of life in people with partial foot and below-knee amputation. While these studies suggest that quality of life is the same in people with partial foot and below-knee amputation, they involve small numbers of people and do not account for the effect that age and diabetes have on quality of life. Further research is needed to be confident that quality of life is comparable in people with partial foot or below knee amputation.

What we learn from this research will help inform difficult decisions about amputation surgery from a quality of life perspective.

Am I eligible?
You can participate in the study if:
    - you are an adult over 18 years of age
    - have either a partial foot amputation or a below-knee (transtibial) amputation affecting just one leg

What is involved?
We anticipate that the survey will take about 20 minutes to complete. None of the questions require you to disclose identifying information. All data you submit is completely anonymous. The researchers will have no way of identifying you from the data you submit.
